Tara Mokhtari is a writer based in Melbourne, Australia.
Currently pursuing a PhD in Creative Writing at RMIT University with an Australian Postgraduate Award scholarship; Tara has
a Masters in Creative Media, and a Bachelor of Media/Multimedia Production.
Tara's publication history includes work in Heat 15 - Luminous Gerberas, several recent Visible Ink anthologies, and The New
City Project. She was a featured artist in H2W2, the Australia Council for the Arts publication, and her work has attracted
print, radio, television, and online media coverage.
As a playwright, Tara has had upwards of ten plays performed in Canberra and Sydney, including two CAT Award winning works.
As a poet, Tara has completed a verse novel manuscript, and is regularly published (but rarely appears at readings!). Tara
is a teacher at Victoria University in the areas of Poetry and Creative Writing, and believes in making poetry a more accessible
genre, particularly for young people.
Tara worked in the Australian music industry as head of publicity for a blues and roots record label, independent music management,
and touring unsigned bands. She wrote and directed a short music documentary that aired on community television in 2004, entitled
"Who Is Baron Samadhi".
